An only son tries to woo the girl of his dreams with the unwanted help of his deceased father.

In the center of the story are former lovers who have to go a long and dangerous path in order to save their son and find a common language with each other again. A young veterinarian from Moscow, Vasily Bulatov, is kidnapped by a group of terrorists from a Greek hotel and transported to one of the regions of Syria.

At the center of this family comedy are a mother and son, but also a whole range of intricate family relationships that intertwine during the celebration of Branko's twenty-fifth birthday. An overly caring mother who focuses on her son, a demented grandmother, a crazy aunt and her confused husband... are just some of the protagonists of this play.

Once they understand that they are lost, Ana and Son will be able to look into each other’s eyes and begin to find each other.

The Buryat returns to his homeland to his father to sign his renunciation of the inheritance of his late mother. But the father has other plans for his son. Aldar is Buryat, but grew up with his mother in Moscow. After his mother's death, he learns that he cannot receive the inheritance because his parents were not officially divorced. He flies to Buryatia. The father agrees to sign the documents, but on the condition that the son spends one day with his father, during which they will have to go to the datsan, perform a shamanic ritual and visit the family tree.

Set against the backdrop of post-war Germany, the screen adaptation of Siegfried Lenz’s short story released in 1949 shows a snapshot in time of Mr. Schwamm, an indulgent husband and caring father, who wants so save his depressed son. During the pivotal night of this mission, he has an odd encounter: Paired up by destiny, he confides his troubles to a bitter and insensitive stranger, who in the very last minute manages to turn the story into a touching parable for kindness and humanity.
